Types of Scholarships:

The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship program provides four different types of scholarships for qualifying students. Below is a detailed explanation of each scholarship type.

Florida Academic Scholarship (FAS):

  • Maintain a weighted GPA of 3.50 or higher.
  • Complete 100 hours of community service or 100 hours of paid work experience.
  • Earn 16 high school course credits.
  • Achieve the minimum required ACT®/SAT® score by June 30th of your high school graduation year.

Florida Medallion Scholarship (FMS):

  • Minimum 3.00 weighted GPA
  • Complete 75 hours of community service or 100 hours of paid work experience
  • Earn 16 high school course credits
  • Achieve the minimum required ACT®/SAT® score by June 30th of your high school graduation year

Gold Seal Cape Scholarship (GSC):

  • There is no GPA requirement.
  • You need either 30 service hours or 100 paid work hours.
  • You need 5 CAPE post-secondary credit hours.
  • There is no required ACT®/SAT® score.

Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship (GSV) - #4:

  • A minimum weighted GPA of 3.00 in non-elective courses is required.
  • A minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 in career education courses is required.
  • Three full credits in a single Career and Technical Education program are required.
  • Either 30 service hours or 100 paid work hours are required.
  • There are no required courses.
  • A minimum score on the ACT®/SAT® or P.E.R.T. exams must be achieved by June 30th of the high school graduation year.

General Eligibility Requirements:

  • To be eligible for the Florida Financial Aid Award (FFAA), you must meet the following requirements:
  • Residency: You must be a Florida resident and a US citizen or eligible noncitizen, as determined by your postsecondary institution.
  • Application Deadline: You must complete the FFAA no later than August 31 after high school graduation.
  • High School Diploma: You must earn a standard Florida high school diploma, or its equivalent, from a Florida public high school or a registered Florida Department of Education (FDOE) private high school; or complete a home education program.
  • Criminal History: You must not have been found guilty of, or pled nolo contendere to, a felony charge, unless you have been granted clemency by the Governor and Cabinet sitting as the Executive Office of Clemency.
  • Postsecondary Enrollment: You must be accepted by, and enroll in a degree or certificate program at, an eligible Florida public or independent postsecondary institution.
  • Course Load: You must be enrolled for at least six non-remedial semester credit hours (or the equivalent in quarter or clock hours) per term.

Specific Eligibility Requirements:

  • Graduate from a Florida public high school with a standard Florida high school diploma.
  • Obtain the necessary minimum score on either the ACT® or SAT® college entrance exam by June 30 of your high school graduation year.

  • Submit an FFAA application no later than August 31 following your high school graduation.
