Required Documents:
To apply for the Honjo International Scholarship 2024 in Japan, you must submit the following documents through the online application system.
- Academic Transcript (In Japanese or English; please attach a translation if written in other languages.)
- Academic transcript of undergraduate course (Required). If you transferred into the university from the College of Technology (kōsen school system), the transcript of it is also required.
- Academic transcript of graduate school (If you don't have it yet, it is unnecessary to submit.)
- Research Proposal: Use the given template (Click Here) and write in Japanese language.

- Your achievements in research, academic, and social activities.
- Recommendation Letter from the Supervisor: Please obtain a recommendation letter describing the applicant's academic performances, personal characteristics evaluation, future potential, etc. The student may also obtain a recommendation letter from a previous supervisor in their country if they are more familiar with the applicant's academic background. There are no designated sheet or format requirements, but please attach a translation if the letter is written in a language other than English or Japanese.
- Documents proving admission, such as an admission letter, a letter of acceptance, etc. Please upload the certificate of enrollment only if the student is already enrolled in the graduate school.
- If the admission letter or the letter of acceptance is not available by April 30, 2024, please indicate the probable date of availability in the "web application system." Send the document to the HISF office via email as soon as it becomes available. Note that the web application system cannot be accessed after April 30, 2024.
- Open all document envelopes to upload as PDF files through the "scholarship web application system," even if they are marked "Confidential" or "Invalid if opened."
- A recommendation letter sent by email or postal mail by a recommender is acceptable. In such cases, upload a PDF file stating "A letter is sent directly." The email address for the letter is info@hisf.or.jp.
- Photocopied documents can be used for uploading.

Eligibility Requirements for the Japan Scholarship:
To be eligible to apply for the Honjo International Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year, you must meet the following criteria:
- Applicants must not hold Japanese citizenship.
- Applicants must be enrolled or currently applying for a graduate program in Japan starting in September or October 2024. This includes those who are currently employed and will be enrolling in September or October 2024. Those entering graduate schools in Spring 2025 should apply for the 2024 program, which opens from September 1 to October 31, 2024 (scheduled).
- Generally, students enrolled in professional graduate schools are not eligible. However, students with a research plan may apply.
- The remaining duration of study until graduation must exceed 12 months.
- Applicants to the PhD program must begin the PhD course before the age of 35. Applicants to the master's program must begin the master's course before the age of 30 (no exceptions).
- Applicants must possess a strong desire to serve their home country as a future career goal.
- Applicants must demonstrate a deep understanding of international friendship and goodwill. They must attend events organized by the foundation and participate in the alumni network.
- Applicants must be able to engage in everyday conversation in Japanese. Interviews will be conducted in Japanese (no exceptions).
